Correction, 2025
Mixed media assemblage
9.5 × 6.5 × 2.25 in

The Artwork

Correction brings together blocks of red, orange, and beige with a vintage magazine illustration of mechanical equipment. Lettered callouts identify individual parts, yet the accompanying explanations are absent. Detached from its original context, the diagram becomes an open-ended visual puzzle: an image that promises clarity while withholding the information needed to understand it.

The warm palette gives the composition an immediate graphic presence, balancing the technical detail of the illustration with broader areas of color. A solid, meticulously handcrafted frame contains the arrangement, reinforcing the work’s identity as a constructed object rather than a flat image. Its depth and careful fabrication invite close looking at both the assembled fragments and the structure that holds them.

The work reflects Premo’s broader practice of gathering and recontextualizing objects through collage and sculpture. Here, the relationship between diagram, color, and title suggests the uncertain process of making something right—or deciding what “right” might mean. Mechanical logic becomes a starting point for a composition shaped by ambiguity, visual wit, and material precision.

Biography

Mac Premo is a Brooklyn-based American artist known for mixed-media assemblage, sculptural collage, and installation. Using collected materials and found objects, Premo constructs works that shift ordinary things from utility into metaphor. Wood, imagery, text, hardware, and unexpected fragments become vehicles for humor, memory, visual rhythm, and narrative possibility.

Premo’s works occupy a space between abstraction and storytelling. Their precise, often playful constructions recall imaginary tools, incomplete machines, diagrammatic systems, and architectural models—yet they remain deeply human, shaped by the histories and emotional residue of their materials.

A graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, Premo has exhibited nationally and internationally, including at MoMA PS1, the Brooklyn Museum, the Ringling Museum, the New Museum, and The Invisible Dog Art Center.

“I am fascinated by the stories behind objects and by the way meaning shifts when something is removed from its original purpose and placed into a new context. My work is about that transformation—how found materials, memory, and structure can come together to create something unexpectedly resonant.”
