“I build paintings from tension—between structure, instinct, and the language of marks.”

– Taher Jaoui

Taher Jaoui is a Tunisian-born artist whose abstract compositions merge gesture, geometry, and layered symbolism. Working across painting, drawing, and collage, he builds images that balance control and spontaneity, often drawing on street art, mathematical structures, and calligraphic marks.

Biography

Taher Jaoui was born in Tunis, Tunisia in 1978 and now lives and works in Berlin. Before turning fully to art, he studied science and engineering, an academic background that continues to inform the precision and structure within his work. Jaoui began his artistic career with collage-based works before expanding into painting and drawing, developing a visual language that combines geometric form, expressive gesture, and symbolic mark-making.

His work is often described as a controlled exploration of chaos, where abstraction is organized into balanced compositions that feel both rigorous and intuitive. Jaoui’s paintings have been exhibited internationally and are represented by galleries in cities including New York, Berlin, London, Tel Aviv, Tunis, and Dubai. His work is included in private collections across Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and the United States, reflecting his growing presence in contemporary abstraction.

“My work moves between order and spontaneity, where color, line, and symbol build a space for tension and release. I am interested in how abstract forms can hold both mathematical precision and emotional intensity at once.”
